Celebrating 45 Years of Culture, Community, and Philoxenia.
It began in 1981 with a simple but profound idea: to share the warmth of our table with our neighbours. What started as a modest gathering for the Port Adelaide Greek Orthodox Community has blossomed into one of South Australia’s most cherished cultural traditions—the Semaphore Greek Festival.
For 45 years, our mission has been rooted in the ancient Greek concept of Philoxenia—friendship to the stranger. We believe that culture is best shared through the senses: the aroma of charcoal-grilled lamb, the sound of the bouzouki drifting across the foreshore, and the joy of dancing arm-in-arm.
The true soul of our festival, however, lies in its people. Every loukoumas served and every dance performed is the work of over 300 dedicated volunteers. This is a labour of love passed down through generations, where grandparents work alongside grandchildren to ensure our heritage not only survives but thrives.
